It was explained that at present MeitY has notified the safety standards for microwave ovens, now, it is proposed to mandate the performance of microwave ovens as per IS 11676. The stakeholders informed that microwave oven is already covered under the voluntary certification of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). The chair asserted that MeitY will take up the matter with BEE so there is no duplication in regulation.
